What started as an April Fool’s prank is now becoming reality. Rainforest Cafe New York, set to be the world’s highest Rainforest Cafe, will debut this October atop the Empire State Building’s 86th floor. Fans who were first teased with the playful announcement earlier this year will finally get a chance to experience the famed theme restaurant in one of the most iconic landmarks in the world.
Originally hinted at by Empire State Building management in a humorous social media post, the idea of a Rainforest Cafe opening at such a location quickly gained traction among nostalgic fans. Following an overwhelming response, the Empire State Building announced that a limited-time Rainforest Cafe pop-up would indeed take place from October 3 to October 6.
The four-day event will feature everything people love about Rainforest Cafe: animatronic animals, misty jungle decor, and simulated thunderstorms. Guests will also have access to limited-edition merchandise and special food offerings exclusive to the Empire State Building pop-up. Tickets for the event are available online, with daily hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A Bit of Rainforest Cafe History
The Rainforest Cafe first opened in 1994, founded by Steven Schussler at the Mall of America in Minnesota. Schussler’s dedication to the concept was unparalleled; he spent $400,000 transforming his own home into a miniature rainforest. The quirky dedication paid off, as the restaurant quickly gained popularity, becoming a beloved chain across the U.S.
