A man who fired at deputies and placed explosive devices on his front porch apparently died after his home caught fire Thursday, the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies arrived at the man’s home in the 500 block of Indian Creek Road about 9:30 a.m. to arrest him on an outstanding aggravated assault warrant, according to Deputy Chief Jennifer Gabbert.

The suspect, whose name has not yet been released by officers, immediately began shooting at deputies from several locations in his home, Gabbert said.

A SWAT team was called to the scene and tried to negotiate with the man but he continued to shoot the representatives, he said.

A fire started in the area on his front porch where he apparently dropped incendiary devices, Gabbert said.

The trailer of the man’s house caught fire and he could no longer get out. Investigators believe he died in the fire but his body has not been recovered, Gabbert said.
