The New York School Tax Relief (STAR) Program continues to provide significant financial assistance to eligible residents, offering over $1,000 in direct payments. With a $2.3 billion fund allocated for 2024, this initiative aims to support around three million New Yorkers, providing much-needed relief amid rising living costs.
Governor Kathy Hochul, along with state representatives, has emphasized the importance of this program, particularly during a time of increasing economic challenges. As part of a broader effort to help families, the STAR Program addresses the financial strain of school tax payments and daily expenses.
To qualify for the STAR Program, homeowners earning $500,000 or less annually are eligible to receive several hundred dollars in relief. Additionally, residents aged 65 or older with household incomes below $98,700 can receive over $1,000. Applicants can choose between receiving payments via direct deposit or traditional checks, with an option to apply the funds directly to their annual school tax bills. Long Island residents are still eligible to register and receive relief payments, with funds expected to be fully disbursed by September 30. New Yorkers who haven’t applied yet should take advantage of this opportunity to alleviate financial burdens as the application window remains open.
